  2. Reeder 3 0 2 – Rss Reader Online

After much anticipation, the best RSS app for the iPhone, Reeder, has just been updated to version 3.0 and brings a ton of new features. This is a rewrite of the app from the ground-up, so there.

Reeder 3.0 is still a Google Reader client, made for Google Reader users. In version 3.0, the app gains support for Shaun Inman's Fever, a web-based RSS reading application, and improved syncing with Readability, the free read-later service. Announced soon after Google's announcement of the Reader shutdown, popular iPhone RSS client Reeder has been updated today to include support for local RSS subscriptions and Feedbin sync. In the first major update since June 2012 (when version 3.0 came out), developer Silvio Rizzi has decided to further move away from Google Reader for traditional. Reeder, the popular RSS reader app for iPhone, has been updated to version 3.0 and brings with it an updated user interface and some new options and features that make an already great RSS app even better than before. The first thing you'll notice is that the app icon has completely changed. Reeder had a rough transition to the post-Google Reader world. Following the shutdown of Google's RSS reading service on July 1 (something that Google had announced in March), Reeder – one of the most popular, if not the most popular Google Reader client for iOS – received an update to add support for Feedly and Feed Wrangler on July 2, but developer Silvio Rizzi.

What's New in Version 3.0.3

What's new:

A convenient way of accessing news feeds.

As most of you probably know by now, Google Reader will be closed on July 1st. What does this mean for Reeder? Unfortunately, it's still too early to have answers to all questions I got the last couple weeks. Probably most importantly, one thing that's clear:
Development of Reeder will continue after July 1st.

So what's the plan?

Updates

All three versions of Reeder will get major updates. Unfortunately, these won't be ready for July 1st. Sorry about that.

Reeder for iPhone

The current version of Reeder for iPhone will be free, starting today. Version 3.2 (already submitted) will support the following services as alternatives to Google Reader:

  • Feed Wrangler (No support for smart streams yet in Reeder)
  • Standalone/Local RSS without syncing
Now you might ask why the iPhone version will get a major update too. Actually, that wasn't planned at first. But I'm really happy with how the new iPad version turns out and want to bring this to the iPhone too.

Reeder for Mac and iPad

Unfortunately, it's not that easy to add other services to the current versions of these apps. It's probably best to use my time to work on the new versions, to get these out as soon as possible. This means that I'll remove the current versions of these apps from the App Store on July 1st, as they only work with Google Reader.

Reeder 3 0 2 – Rss Reader Online

That's all for now. I'll try to keep this page up-to-date. Also, any news will be posted on Twitter.
